JetBlue made headlines recently by deciding to raise their bag fees from $25 to $30. Its important to note that when you book group airfare, JetBlue waives the first checked bag fee. United followed suit with Delta falling in line, all bumping their bag fees higher.

Baggage fees are big business for the airlines. The Bureau of Transportation Statistics?reports?domestic airlines collected $2.4 billion in baggage fees in the first half of 2018, up about 7% from the same period last year. The airlines collected a total of $4.6 billion in bag fees in 2017.

The decision to raise bag fees was done in a response to combat rising fuel costs, which are also pushing fares higher.

In the world of group airfare, we’ve seen a steady uptick in the total cost of trips. While we do what we can to save our partners money, getting creative and often utilizing our status and private contracts, the overall message is if you are planning travel for 2019, expect to pay more.
